MK3 Aerial and cable removal
« on: 12 March 2011, 20:31 »
Okay, after a year of getting next to no radio coverage I've decided to rip out the aerial and cable to see if I can get to the root of the issue. Before I rip out everything i just wanted to see how you get into everything. So, I'm presuming I open the boot, and remove the plastic bit at the top to release the headlining? Also wanted to know where the cable runs around i.e. will it be a simple case of pulling on one end of the cable?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It runs along the pass, side you need to drop the headlining down on both the back and side to get the cable out.

No probs, forget to say you will also need to drop the pass side dash undertray as the cable runs down inside the windscreen piller and out by the Heater box.

Okay, before I start on ripping out cables, aerials and the stereo I just wanted your thoughts on the actual issue. When I got my Gold the reception was fine on both FM and AM. After about 6 months the FM reception started to be a bit poor i.e. you can still listen to it but there's intermittent static and so you have to stop listening to it. MW is not even possible to listen to as there's just constant static.

Does that sound like a connection, aerial or stereo issue or is quite a tricky one to say?

Not sure but I gave up on the roof aerial on mine and went for a glass mounted one, much better.

Where did you mount the glass aerial and put all of the cabling?

Top corner of the front screen and dropped the wiring down the pillar.
