Assuming you want to replace your standard diverter valve for an atmospheric dumping one (that goes pssshhht !) and not just an uprated diverter (forge 007 etc.) then it's a case of "suck it and see"
Since the AGU relies purely on MAF readings where as later engines use both MAF and manifold MAP readings you won't get conflicting requested/actual boost. That's what seems to cause the problems. BUT! some people have reported poor running on their AGU's with atmos. dump valves.. others work fine. If you really want one then go ahead and try, if it makes the car run crap you can always send it back.
