Problems with the valver
« on: 09 March 2011, 22:46 »
Right, ran a compression test today and cylinders one and 4 are very low (plugs had oil on them too). She is chucking oil out the zaust, back of block and exhaust fumes out of my oil catch tank. Am I right in thinking its either rings or head gasket?

Much love, Caistor 'about to have to strip his entire engine and hit it with a hammer' bmx

WHOOP WHOOP! Where can I get the splein tool from to unbolt the head? And also am I right in thinking that the cams will lift out with the head?

No worries; so it new head bolts, pretty much full gasket set for cam gaskets too and new cam belt obv. Anything else? I have never done a head gasket before so need all the help I can get before I start

Get a tensioner with the belt too. Worth working out whats actually wrong with the engine first before buying all the kit though.

Low compression leads to me having to take the head off anyway so all this stuff is getting replaced no matter what. Hardly going to use the same head gasket again

I'd be thinking about valves out for a clean up, reseat and new stem seals while the head's off. -Maybe get the Dremel for some more excitement.

If you'd like another KR lump to prepare while you continue to drive (smokily) around I've got one sat in the corner that you can have for £50..

Good luck
