GSF parts
« on: 04 September 2003, 13:54 »
Looks like my luck with GSF car parts has finally run out. Bought a new solid water pipe from them to replace my corroded one and I've noticed, after a mere 300 to 400 miles of driving, that the new one is leaking from one of the welded joints  >:(
Looks like I now have my own proof of what 'golfvr6' has been saying all along.

On the plus side, the car I'm picking up on Tuesday has a good one so I can swap it for a genuine one and attempt to claim a refund on the GSF one.

Thats only a small problem mate, if you carry on using them you will have much bigger problems  >:(
Cambelt tensioners, brake disc and pads, suspension kits, top mounts, the list goes on and on  ???

Rich I will send you some before and after pics of my Strut top mounts when I've changed them for you to judge how bad the german and swedish ones are.

They are selling rubbish and have been for a while, Don't do it to your car, it deserves better.

It's a shame, in the early days I used to use Autocavan who I rated. Then German & Swedish came along and took over Autocavan and they were good for a while.
Now it seems, they have got greedy and taken on the French part and standards have dropped.  >:(

Eurocarparts still seem competetive, what's your experience with them?

I've never used them, I have one down the road in chessington but have been put off with my experience of GSF.

I used to use GSF all the time when I first started driving about 11 years ago, and they were good. I have found since selling french parts the quality has gone down hill.

Too many fingers in too many pies I guess.

I remember a TV programme on BBC a while ago that went undercover on GSF and similar places and they were selling track rods and stuff for mercedes benz that were made in one of these dodgy foreign factories.

They thing is, its so easy for GSF to get them made up to look like the original part, just because it has a VW sign and a part number doesn't make it genuine.

Infact the VW cam belt tensioner I bought after getting stung by GSF didnt have a part number on it. Also the little holes that you use the two prong tool in to tensioner the belt didnt line up on the GSF one so it was no use to man or beast anyway.

I never saw that TV program.......wish I had, I might have seen the light a little earlier.
I have used eurocarparts occasionally and like Kevin have had good experience. I think I will switch to them as my main supplier from now on. Like you Kevin I'll have to use mail order as I'm too far away from a branch...........bummer as we have an acoount with GSF at work where they deliver straight to our hangar and give us a 10% discount :(

Modulator forgot to mention about the lovely whining noise that his GSF cambelt tensioner made!
