Jacking points advice please
« on: 08 March 2011, 09:15 »
Morning all

Am I right in saying when using a trolley jack there are 4 points to jack up on sort of circular shape?
Also should u put a flat block of wood between the jack and the jacking point?

Not wanting to put a hole thru my floors

Personally I wouldnt use the jacking points anymore, just for tempting fate!
Under the front, jack under the plate that secures the anti roll bar (10 inch inboard of the front jacking point) And on the rear, jack under the axle mounting, just in front of the rear wheel, use a wooden block only if your confident, that it in no way can slip
And use axle stands!

I agree with Thom - I have one that started to disappear into the bodywork. Even though it is all welded up now I still don't trust it. There are other strong points as Thom suggests.

Its criminal to jack on any bit that has underseal!

Rear axel or front subframe for me. Never had an issue with those areas. A bent axel is very rare.

Don't do it!! No underseal sub frame and even wishbones are a good jacking point.

Also agree! After spending a substantial amount of dosh having the jacking points repaired properly ie cut out and replaced, they are now defiantly strong enough to use but still I'll never jack the car up on them again!
