I agree and I think he'll take the cash, the thing is (and I know this sounds soft) the guy is 78, he's not even asked for a deposit off me, he just taken me on my word. I know at the end of the day I should be after the best deal etc.
He's got his new car waiting at the garage, so he needs his garage empty, he's told them to get it ready as I've agreed to buy the car, so I'm in pretty good position to get the price lowered.

Sounds a great car, where did you find it ?  Personally I would n't risk loosing it for ?200.

wave it in front of his face etc, and tell him to look around at the price of others!

if he says no then just leave him your number and say the offer stands!!
good advice mate

(maybe this post is a little late but anyway...)

From another perspective - If its absolutley mint condition and you really want it go for it.  But hopefully you did try and knock him down a bit.

If you are prepared to pay that price for it and it's as good as you say it is then go for it, at the end of the day anything is worth as much as someone is prepared to pay for it and if you are happy with whatever price you do pay for it then everyone's happy. Good luck.
......now officially dubless.

Hi all and thanks for the replies. I called the fella on Fri evening and said I was still interested but have seen other examples for less so i was prepared to pay ?1000 and he accepted!
I picked it up on Sat and the guy wasn't happy about me ringing him up at the last minute and changing the price, as he 'd had 5 other offers in the week and had declined them all.
Anyway, it's mine now with a full tank of gas and a new stereo. I've had a good look at the paperwork and it has all the stamps in the book up until 2003, it even has his first insurance policy in the glovebox from 1985!!
