funny problem vr6 spluttering
« on: 27 February 2011, 09:21 »
had a funny problem the other day with my vr6

driving home from work i felt the car had lot a bit of power and spluttering ,i was going about 70-80kmh

i got home and check under the bonnet and found the expansion tank was lower then min

ive had a small water leak now and then but when i looked the other day it was a bit more then usuall

there was liquid near the gear changer and a bit was dripping down from the expansion tank

can the engine move about so much that the coolant in the expansion tank moves around a lot so it leaks from the cap?

ive ordered a new cap (blue one) cos when i open the tank there is a hiss and escape of air

what other things should i check

check your oil. You wouldnt lose lots of coolant by way of spillage through the cap.

last year i drained the coolant out and found them clips were a bit nasty ,so i put on normal jubilee clips on the 2 main pipes from the the rad

i am thinking cos the cap is gash that there is a lot of pressure in the system and its leaking from the rad pipes

and the fact the last few weeks its been minus 25

but ill look at the oil tomorrow :)
