Keeps cutting out!!!!
« on: 24 February 2011, 18:45 »
Hey everyone,

About 4 weeks ago i became the owner of a lovely GTI 1.8t. Basically when i first got the car it was fine, but about a day later it cut out randomly?! it started fine after so didnt really think to much of it. but then kept doin it for days and days after. the only problem was it was getting worse, when it cut out, it wouldnt start again for about 3 or 4 mins... I finally took it to a garage and he said it would probly be the Airflow sensor?.. so replaced that and thought to myself sorted.. but no, its even worse, as i was driving home it didnt seem right at all, when i put my foot down it was pulling back like i was about to run out of fuel. i only just managed to get it on my drive, and then it cut out. Really sounded like it was starving of fuel. Now when i try to start it, it starts then cuts out like straight away... Sorry for the life story but i needed to explain some how :P. A friend thinks my fuel pump has had it?

Anyone have any ideas on what actually goin on?
Help would really be amazing.
Thanks

Exact same issues here.... only seems to be running rich as fault code confirms..."bank 1 rich".....

running rich would prob be lambda sensor or maf.

have you had the car scanned for codes? starting and cutting straight out would have me guess immobilizer, but could be many things

not really, if its kangarooing then its most likely fueling issue. get it scanned, itll have logged a fault

I did...scan showed "bank 1 running rich" and "pressure drop between turbo and throttle body"

On idle car def feels that's it over fueling wanting to stall......

Faulty crank sensor is the most common cause for cutting out/failing to restart. Need the fault codes read first to point you in the right direction.

ade you should probably start a separate thread i think your issue is something different. (in other words, stop hijacking! )

even tho you dont have a warning light showing on your dash you should still have a code ,
i had a problem with my car and no lights were showing but when it was put on a reader  it showed the codes,
so get it checked mate
