Whilst shopping in Tesco I did the customary thing of having a browse through PC.

*Looks wistfully into the distance fantasising about having a massive garage and lots of shiny new tools*

The current issue has a MK2 Golf buying guide.  Whilst not the most comprehensive write up one could imagine, I was shocked to read that they recon the 16v does 41 MPG and the 8v 42 MPG.

 :grin:

Go figure!
If I took my 16v steady it showed 41 mpg on 14 inch wheells on 17s more near 30 mpg .

Oil pumps are not that bad, both 8v and 16v suffer from blocked pick up strainer but it can be sorted.

Also and I am sure someone else can confirm but I think 8v/16v used the same oil pump (might be wrong)

16v has larger oil pump than the petrol 8v.      16v, D and TD all have the same pump iirc

16v's can top 40 mpg if you resist the urge to play,  the ABF should see mid 40's
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Car is looking good now mate :) Unless that's the effects of photoshop :tongue:

Other classic parts of that feature;

Useful contacts .... G-werks ?? they're not doing a feature on G60s

Scarce parts .... Headliner, 90spec side mouldings and wheel arch trims ?? I've got a bunch of these in the garage, headliners especially you can't get rid of, will end up chucking mine no doubt.

Anything worth buying is at least a £1000 .... Not in this economic climate!

£40 for a good parcel shelf .... and I sold my mint one for a tenner :(

Not only does the 8v have more low down torque .... they obviously haven't seen the graph! :grin:
