So, what to do? Stranded without a electrical charging system and no means of getting another one for some time.

Out with the sheet steel, sharpie markers and masking tape. I am, after all, a child of the Blue Peter generation.
Who knew that the internal circumference of the average roll of masking tape is precisely the same diameter as an alternator pulley?

I'll be honest, I did actually "cheat" and use a vernier gauge, scribe etc. This is precision bodging after all. But it was still done on the driveway...

The final piece welded in place, it very well balanced and has been on for over 250+ miles so far. Has been slightly fettled since that photo.

That is the KR running again for now until it gets pulled for an ABF. Picked up a crucial bit of kit for it this evening too after hunting about for one for a while now.
Pics and details to follow but I'm almost ready to go. Just need to get a loan of the lock up as don't fancy doing this on the driveway.

Cheers, It looks as if it may have been at the bottom of the sea?
On the plus side when it did let go it didn't take anything important with it, so have to be happy with that.

Cheers dude, as the saying goes you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter.

Cheers dude, that's high praise indeed.

I've quit my job as of the end of the month to focus on car fettling full time. Hopefully the skills I have can only improve as I get more time to practice/ guidance/ technical advice. Should have my City and Guilds in 2yrs

Bought a nifty wee gadget last night, but obviously I need to fabricate a suitable bracket. It's never straight forward is it?

The gadget is a Hydro cable conversion from the SEAT, means I don't need to puss about with drilling the bulkhead and bleeding clutches and it'll be lighter weight. That and I can fit the mk3 box with better ratio's for the ABF

Yup, I started out as a photographer, then as a 3D designer and rapid prototyper, then I trained as a sculptor for 4yrs getting my honours, worked in various creative and technical roles, even ran my own printing/ clothing business for a few years. However pussing about with cars has been the constant for the last 15yrs. So I'm going to get my proper technical qualifications/ coded welding with a view to opening my own 'shop in the next few years. Plus one of my dearest friends is a CNC machinist so between us we can knock out some pretty cool stuff.
Why do something you hate and be skint when you can do something you love and be skint?

Possibly going to look into the 25bhp+ black and silver valve cover market

Is it really? Could pay for college that...

There a few "specialist" garages near me but none are actually C&G qualified, all charge like wounded rhinos majority are total cunits. What I've learned is if you keep the punter happy then you'll get repeat custom and they'll tell their friends. I also believe in treating people as I wish to be treated, not in a religious way, just in a basic human being kind of way.
