Not posted in here for a wee while. Not had much time to devote to the Golf and weather has been crap since moving out of the garage so all activity has been driveway based.

Reet, so situation it's failed MOT on the brakes. Was in the garage to get the brakes done, ergo I returned to the garage to get the brakes redone. I'm going to chance my mitt and ask if they'll MOT it too as it failed on the brakes that they did. Unlikey, but at the mo I'm 80.00 out of pocket and no MOT.

Have bent my mates ear about the woes of brakes and he very kindly lent me his brake nipper to test out a theory. Think I have narrowed it down but more on that when I get it but as I don't want to incriminate myself on a public forum we'll leave it at that :D

Some pic's from being in the first time and shows that the welding to the sills isn't too bad.

Some random photo's of what I've been pussing about doing.

This is not eye shadow but French chalk to allow me to seat the speedo cable grommet properly.

Worked a treat

Kinda difficult to see in the photo's but the seal is gone in the back of my old servo

Old

New

Brake servo's, easy to get to.

Replacement servo Zinc'd up, not perfect, but better.

Old and new with a fresh coat of Hi temp paint. Not bad for a driveway effort.

I've been busy this weekend. Just not working on the Golf. :(
My mate Boab popped in and offered some suggestions for trouble shooting the brakes which I will look into once I get my brake tool back on the go.

SO thought I would share some photo's I couldn't upload the other day.

Heath Robinson eat your heart out but made job easier getting to servo bolts

Even though no one will ever see it I rubbed this down and painted it too, it lives behind the brake servo.

Got bored in my lunch hour so decided to repair the horn push on my Italvolanti wheel by fabricating some discs of plastic which I will redrill so it'll stop popping off. DPO (Dreaded Previous Owner) seems to have snapped all the plastic mounting tabs off it. Will remove the plastic protective sheet once it's all glued in place.

Picked this up, a very late spec 16v badge from America (?) courtesy of Ben

Wanting to start building up my ABF with all new subframe, wishbones etc. Going for TT rear bushes and stock fronts. Found them new for cheap. Due to a slight miscommunication I've ended up with this courtesy of Geo, cheers fella.

And this courtesy of Craig, cheers fella

Saturday we did a bit of this.

This Sunday I have done a bit of this.

Will finish bleeding them later on this week.

Looks like a heap of cr@p, but it's getting there slowly. Also provisionally got use of a shed to paint it in

Just need to get it MOT'd and tax the bugger. Then the real fun begins...

So again it's been a wee while between updates. I must try to keep this more contemporary.

Well the MOT that Kwik Fit did the brakes for, surprise surprise it failed  the retest on the brakes. Back to the drawing board.

I acquired a nearly new pair of 280mm callipers, they had the worst paint job on them ever so I sorted that out with some other new bits and bobs, like stainless steel bleed nipples to avoid any snapped nipples in future.

Before

OCD or what?

After

All fitted with new pads and only had to take it apart once as I forgot to thread lock them, at least that was before I drove it

no dear, they're brakes

Do clean rocker covers work better?

Shouldn't you be building something fruity rather than looking at my sheddy mk2?

I'd better get scrubbing then.

I've only had 280's on it so can't really comment on 256's.

Going to pop over and have a nosey at what you've been up to...

I did have a clean rocker cover and painted my inlet, but the KR is getting binned anyway so didn't see the point in fitting it. I have a photo somewhere cause I did it when I was off my face on pain med's
