Deactivating Xenon DRL's
« on: 17 February 2011, 20:41 »
Hi,

I was just wondering if the DRL's for xenons can be turned off. I was trying what the manual said on the weekend but I could not seem to get them switched off.

Instructions were pull down back the indicator stalk. Then turn the power on and off for 3 secs.

Is this correct ?
On Order - Mk 8.5 Clubsport Pure White, Queenstown, DCC.
MK 7.5 R Pure White, Pretoria Silver, DCC, Rear Camera.
Gone - MK 7 GTI Carbon Grey, Rear Camera, Service Pack.
Gone - MK 6 GTI  Reflex Silver, Monza Shadows, RCD 510, Rear Camera, Bluetooth, Tyre Pressure Sensor, Xenons Convenience pack, Service Pack :)
Gone - MK 5 GTI Reflex Silver, Monza II 18's, Luxury Pack, Mulitchanger

Does not work with Xenons.
You have to use VCDS and goto the following.
Central electric ---> Coding --->  long code helper
Byte 11 select it

A box below will now appear.
A tick box next to 'Daytime running lights via low beam' will be ticked, click it to untick it. click back, click 'do it'.

DRL as xenons will now be turned off.

Do you need VCDS to deactivate the other DRL's when you have Xenons fitted as standard?? I not only have permenant headlights but also yellow side lights, rear & number plate lights, and I just don't seem to be able to turn any of them off!! It's like driving a F,in Christmas tree :))

I'm thinking of leaving mine turned off to experiment, have had more near collisions in the past week than I have had in a whole year, each one I was driving normally and in no way in the wrong.  I think they may be dazzlingly hypnotic!

If your car is a 2010 as listed in your sig it is about the same age as mine. Mine was delivered late March 2010.
If it is a 2010 with the older Xenon lights like mine rather than a 2011 with the LED DRL Xenons. It will probably have them set as mine did.
Front headlights + front side lights + rear lights + number plate lights.
To turn the DRL off on that age of car you have to deactivate them by using VCDS(Vagcom) or similar. (see my second post of this thread)
