More Problems
« on: 16 February 2011, 11:20 »
1.8 abs,

it has problems starting in the morning, etc. it has never failed to start at all, but I'll be cranking it and it won't catch at all for a while, then it starts to catch and fires up and idles perfectly, accept for when I put my foot on the accelerator, then it becomes hideously lumpy and wont put the revs up seems the harder I push the accelerator the weaker it becomes and sometimes stalls. however after about a minute, seems to run fine

Plenty of power in the starter motor, etc. but it just seems like it is taking ages for the fuel to come through? Could it be that it is losing fuel pressure when the car is sat over night, etc. so it is having to pull it through from the tank again?

and I have changed the dizzy cap rotor arm ht leads and cleaned the throttle body, which was clean anyway.

I have a similar issue with my gti 8v. sometimes in the morning it takes a fair few cranks to get it going. Once started tho, its fine. My last engine was the same. Dont know what causes it, but the fuel pressure issue sounds a likely case.

Check the coil. Spray some water on it and get someone to check for sparks when revving it
