« on: 04 February 2011, 12:14 »
had the pad for sometime now but still not changed.
what tools do i need and do the calipers have to be removed or do they split?
asking as i dont really have the space or tools to do it so will need to find some somewhere.
cheers D

The caliper does not need to come off, undo the bottom bolt and it just lifts up enough to remove the old pads. You will then need a caliper winding tool to open it up for the new pads.

Pretty easy job, just whip the wheel off and the calipers / carriers are seperate, just unbolt the caliper and slip that off (you will need to hold the inside bolt with a spanner while you undo the outside bolt with a socket / spanner) and the pads just pop straight out of the carrier, stick a bit of copper grease on the back of the pads and should be sweet :) i'm sure i will have missed something out but i jsut replaced my 1.8 8v brake setup with the VR / G60 brakes lastnight and it's simple stuff ;)

Beat me to it :D although it does only take 5 mins to whip the caliper off (not carrier as their most likely seized ) is the caliper winding tool for the brake piston?

dont need a caliper tool, a g clamp will do the job. take the lid off the fluid reservoir or open the bleed nipple a bit. keep an eye on brake fluid level as you compress the piston, it will go up a bit.

oh and you cant just undo 1 bolt if its got 239mm brakes, you gotta take em both out
