headlamp bulb replacement

hello all...

one of my bulbs has gone in the headlamp unit (dipped beam works fine, no main beam tho)...so i presume its just a bulb replacement job. have the Haynes manual but not dug it out yet to look at the job, i know of people who have struggled before replacing bulbs due to the complexity of removing the whole lamp unit, and there can be probs re-positioning the unit in terms of alignment or leaving it prone to collection of rain water. is this a simple job i can do myself or shuold i take it in to the dealer to sort for me???

I have the same prob, my sidelight bulb has gone on the passenger side, in the haynes manual it says about ripping out the battery, i still havent got round to doing it due to the cold weather, and i was thinking about taking mine somewhere too, but not back to halfords as they wont change it for you as its to much work for them!!! grr

i've decided to book myself in the vw garage during a lunch hour this week. the haynes guide says its fairly easy job but recommends u get the headlamps alignment checked asap, so may as well get the garage to do that at the same time. in addition...if the garage break anything during the job they can replace it, i seem to have been heavy handed recently and will prob snap something if i do it myself.

just to let u know how i got on...

took car into vw dealer during my lunch hour, they charged me ?7.14 for the bulb and ?6.00 for the labour, they said they would have washed the car as well but as i was on a tight time schedule they didn't have time. the whole thing took about thirty mins, not too bad at all.

errrm ok

well i changed my sidelights and headlamps today

was easy as pie

i removed the rear watertight covers and took out the power plugs(connections for the lights) pulled out the bulbs and replaced them

the side lights are a press release bulb

the headlights are held in with a metal clip (remember to remove conection plg first )


i have replaced my sidelights with white LED's (w5)
and have replaced my headlights with brillaiant white lazer blue lamps (477)

both sets of bulbs look very effect and there is a noticable difference from original bulbs

ive got some bulbs so i mite just take it to vw, for them to do it.
did you have to book? or did you just turn up?

I HAVE JUST CHANGED AL OF THE FRONT BULBS INCLUDING THE FOG LAMPS WOTH THE PHILLIPS BLUE RANGE LOOKS FAB

have alook before you go to VW the price you pay for the bulbs in VW will pay you to get these

i also have a touareg and in the process of replacing all of them but there is not the full range availble from powerbulbs yet

well worth it much whiter and lots brighter

ive got white leds that i want for my side lights, iam interested in them for my dipped beam tho, thanx i'll give them a look.

Hi Andy (Flipmode)....

Just do it yourself - it's dead easy.   The driver's side is easier because there's more room.  If its the passenger side, you may need to remove the battery to get enough room.

I've done both sides, and it's OK.  I asked the dealer how much they would charge, and this scared me into doing it myself!
