« on: 25 February 2005, 19:44 »
im nearly there in getting my new golf mk3 but i really want a colour concept one!!

would i be rite in thinkin they only did them in the 8v version??

If so what would i need to put a 16v motor in it? or is there not much between the two engines performance wise??

i really need help with this cos if i cant get a 16v colour concept i will put the motor in it to get the performance!!

cheers

Dont know if they did the colour concept in a 16v or how much work it would be to drop a 16v engine in a 8v.

But the power is as follows

8v   -   115bhp
16v -   150bhp

So yes quite some difference

well i have now spent hours lookin and come to the conclusion that they only did the colour concept in the 8v!

the engine and box will fit straight in i just dont know how different the electrics are as in the loom and ecu!

well im after a jazzy blue 16v then and a jazzy blue interior with all electrics for movement of the seats and heated.

im sure it woul be cheaper to just put a 16v motor in as i can do it myself and of course there would be some modification to the engine.

16v is lower, has the EDL stuff too...

wouldnt it be easier to by a 16v the right colour and fit the other bits into it?

whats so special about the colour concepts anyways.. enlighten me

as far as i know the colour concept was just like any other gti appart for havin colour coded leather recaro seats in it that are heated and electricly adjusted.

and i cant see it bee easy to find a colour concept interior with all wireing looms and switches and then removing all the carpets and half the dash to fit it all!

been a mechanical person with access to a garage belonging to my dad and alot of info it would be easyer for me to buy a 16v motor and modify it and when ready put it in place of the 8v motor

.. you can get 16v's with heated leather interior if thats what you want it for? thats what i have..

AFAIK they arent recaro's though, and arent electrically adjustable.

and (LOL) they are colour coded.. the car is black, so is the leather and the piping?

seems like a very long winded approach to getting heated/leccy adjustable leather seats to me..

if it is just about the seats i'd get a 16v either with or find aand fit a leather interior (they come up on ebay often) then later find some nice recaro's (maybe from a mk4) and have modded those to fit..

this will also make your life a lot lot simpler as far as insurance goes.. rather than claiming "a mk3 8v with a 16v engine".. you'll be claiming "a mk3 16v with cosmetic mods"

OR... save the engine transfer work and put the money into chipping an 8v.. people claim good results from doing that..  also.. most 8v owners seem happy with what they've got.. and some claim they're better than 16vs...

yeah i'd say thats alot of work just to get a 16v in there. if your going to do an engine swap you should probably just go for a vr6 conversion. or just buy a highline!!

but i suppose if you want a jazz blue 16valve with a colour concept interior you'll have to but a jazz blue colour concept and put a 16valve in it...............
