BETA Tape Unit - Standard ISO wiring block?
« on: 27 January 2011, 08:56 »

Does the BETA tape deck from the Mk4 Golf have a 'standard' wiring fitment at the rear? You know the standard input for the 'block' fitted at the end of pretty much every 'modern' car.

I am looking to purchase a half-decent tapedeck for my Mk3 and am considering the BETA.

My hope is that it is not a specific wiring connection and it will simply plug n play?

Does anyone know who made the unit for VW?  Phillips or Blaupunkt perhaps?

The Mk4 radio pretty much runs standard ISO connection so potentially it should plug str8 into a mk3. Of course it wont look like it "belongs" if you no wot i mean cus its pretty flat faced and sits quite flush on the dash design of the mk4. but it should power up n work. dont even think u need a code but if you do then least you know the screen is built onto the cassette radio.
They are pretty much the same build as most Blaupunkt radios. same rear inputs n outputs (mini iso's).

The Mk3's as standard came factory fitted with Sony cassette Radio's believe it or not. They look aftermarket but thats wot they would have came fitted with. Sonys generally seat very well into the Mk3's. I've had 2 sony's in my mk3 anni...wouldnt have it any other way;-)
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???
