Dash LED's
« on: 23 January 2011, 18:07 »
I know this has been discussed a million times, but I can't find the answer to my particular question...

So, I've bought a load of 3mm LEDs to go into the switches on the dash/door and roof switches.  I've taken the switches apart and installed the LED's, but when I put them in the car they blew.  They're 12v LEDs and was told that I wouldn't need resistors in them.

I take it I was misinformed and I in fact I do need resistors, but how the hell do I git a resistor in?  Tjhe switches are very tight and I can't see how I would go about it......

hmmmm.  I may need to buy resistors then, they worked for about 0.01 of a second.  I'm not really sure how i'm going to fit resistors in there thoug...

ok, on a led you got 2 legs the longer leg is + short leg is - the resistor will only go 1 way. hope that helps.

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=7078889 i think this was the resistor that i used and the gold stripe was used on the led + side and yellow strip side was used to the wire.

I've overcome most of the problems through bliss and ignorance. The only issue I'm having at the minute is how damn fiddle certain bloody switches are. Haha
