I went for the RCD 510 as i went for the camera (which is great and for £150 it's rude not to) and the appearance, just standard speakers in mine, you don't NEED to get a sub or an amp etc etc mate it sounds ok to me.

Not to me as I listen to only Classical Music and Opera on CD. The system would probably be ok for compressed music but I need a wide frequency response and a good dynamic range to enjoy all facets of the music. Hence a new 600 watt 4 Channel amp on Monday. Hope it fits under the driver's seat as the sub is under the passanger one.
I'll then assess the sound and then consider if the speakers need upgrading. I doubt this as I feel the problem lies with the RNS's amplifier. I have an audiphile system at home and it has spoilt me rotten.

When it's all done you can pop down to London and have a listen! Consider it my wedding present to you.

Thanks for the bulb info. I'll be ordering on Monday. Most grateful.

i very much doubt it theres less room under there. 600W hows that defined?

There are 3 versions  of the RCD510.
The RCD510  gives you the screen, 6disc indash player and SD cars(iirc) over the RCD310
There is also a version with DAB built in
There is also a version with the option of the rear view camera input.

Agreed with the above, RCD500 is a bargain, works well and sounds fine for most, dynaudio seems good value, The camera is a bargain also and while your there get the Bluetooth.

IMHO

Oh and the RCD310 looks total sh1te

I guess the sound thing is a subjective thing. As long as it's as good as better than the Delta and DSP in my current Passat, that'll do. I mostly listen to Radio 2 and a cd when Steve Wright is on. I can't imagine the difference being between night and day to me to me, so maybe the 510 will be fine.

As for the rear camara, I know I have only used it once, but I found myself with my head down and concentrating on the screen, which meant I wasn't paying attention to what was going on at the front of the car like I would have been if I was using the mirrors. It was a bit like when you see women reversing looking only over their right shoulder without a thought to where the n/s front is.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I Think you've hit the nail on the head mate, subjective! As far as the camera goes, i know what you mean about paying attention and it just takes a little getting used to but etto and all that.

It is very subjective, yes. But good sound is good sound and as I have very trained ears, here-in lies my dilemma.
But it is an interesting little project which will give me a buzz and hopefully enhance my listening experience during those long traffic jams or when I'll be driving in the summer on wonderful German roads.
You asked and I answered.
And as they say ETTO.

Had the RCD310 orignal spec, changed to the RCD510 no noticable difference in sound quality to my ears. (Don't they both use the same amp and filters??)

Functionality and looks however greatly improved, the display fits the car so much better than the blue RCD310 and the 6 CD player is great.

Bought the (immacuate) RCD510 off ebay a year or so ago for £300ish, sold the RCD310 for £150ish on ebay.

Bargain.
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

However, I think that for you, and from what I have read so far from your posts, the standard set-up would be fine.
