Waiting in McDonalds for the dreaded phone call ...
« on: 20 January 2011, 16:39 »
Car in for Mot test, awaiting the phone call to fetch it and the long list of failures to come with it
Like waiting for my bloody exam results years and years ago

Look out me later asking questions about everything it has failed on...

1. Rear fog  light not working
Bulb maybe wiring switch
2.steering column top mount bracket insecure.
New bracket or new bolt?
3.exhaust not adequately supported
New rubbers
4. Nearside rear brake binding.
HB cable, calliper or just needs a good wire brushing
5.offside front brakehose has insufficient room to move, resulting in fouling on any part.
6.offside front brake hose twisted.
Remove calliper and untwist the hose will rectifie ^ make sure the hose isn't past it from the fouling
7.offside front subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded, size of a jack head approx....
Bit of welding

That's is. How much guys???

Not too much work to be honest. You could possibly do it all yourself minus the welding.

Look around for the rear fog light fault. My mot man said my rear lights wernt working, bought a new switch at a tenner went to fit and noticed the spade bit had fell off  worked after that!

mostly free if you get underneath and asked the MOT chap to tell you where and what exactly needed doing. if thats all the rust you have you are very lucky, get a tidy welder to do it and its a sound job!

I will get it sorted at my local garage who does old car refurb work Inc welding , plus servicing work, don't think he is expensive, he did the following on the wifes golf cab...
plugs, oil and filter, brake fluid change and brake pads for £50 I supplied all the parts, put me a clutch in it last year for £70....
Thinking these bits Inc welding may be about 80 to 100...

Let u know what he says when I call up in a while :smug:

Thanks for the advice guys, you do keep me thinking it is alll worth while, only done 1200 miles since last Mot and 350 bill
