Please dont feed the animals.

I agree, why are these DERV boys allowed on here?

Be intreasting to hear what people say about Diesel Golf on the forum, so what are your thoughts & views?

Diesel as a daily.

Petrol for fun.

With cars like the Golf GTD and the BMW 535d diesel is becoming more about driver appeal as well.

I say there is a place for it on the forum.

It could be argued that a 'GTI' should be N/A and not turbocharged, but let's not go there....  :lipsrsealed:

due to high fuel costs diesels are now the preferred option for the day to day mundane stuff but it doesn't beat the high rpm rush of a tuned petrol engine.  I'll never again have a diesel weekend toy for this very reason.

If you doing a lot of miles then diesels make sense and they have a place on this forum.

I still prefer petrol but I don't do a lot of miles.

304bhp in a MK4
it could have 500bhp and still not feel fast though.  In my mk2 I knew the car was fast (as I was overtaking everything) but it felt more like momentum rather than out-and-out speed.  The lack of noise killed the sensation imo.

As others have said diesel is optimal for the daily drive, some of them are quick as well.  think there is a place for them on the forum as there are plenty of petrol non gti cars. but IMO a true GTi is NA and petrol

tho as far as the pet car/ weekend toy goes i don't think diesel can ever replace a cammed petrol engine.  i just don't like the powerband of diesel  in such cars,  there is just somethign about the induction roar of an NA petrol engine  at full chat, the bangs and pops on overun  and occasioanly crashing into the limiter that just makes them fun.

Did try putting a PD in a golf 2 as well some time ago tho it was more to be used as a test bed for the wireing loom mods needed to get the engine running but it was taxed and MOT'ed so choiuild be driven around.  IMO it was inpressive and crap at the same time hell did it pull but that was the only fun thing it it did it just wasent fun to try and drive it fast down twisty roads  it was like all the GTiness had been extracted :(  so after 2000 miles of testing the engine was extracted

all the VW's have gone bar 1.
