We've had quite a few threads on here with new members asking what they should order which invariably end up in an argument about whether DSG is the future of humanity or whether Carbon Grey looks like it's a white car covered in road salt etc. etc.
So now here's looking backward. The mk6 has been around a couple of years, the oldest GTIs are over a year and a half old and the oldest GTDs are not far behind.
What would you have done differently?Personally, for those members that weren't around nearly two years ago, I went for as basic a spec as I could find. I knew most things I wanted could be cheaply retro fitted and then sold on again when I moved on to another car. The reason behind this is that I rarely keep a car for much more than a year to 18 months. Very few factory options are worth much come part ex time from experience depending of course on how old the car is.
Looking back, the only things I wish I'd have gone for were the 18'' Shadows (I deliberately went for a car with 17'' wheels as I had a set of 18'' BBSs that had cost me a heap and I wanted to keep them on my car. As it turned out I was never happy with the look of them on the mk6, yet they looked the dogs on the mk5

)
And maybe Xenons, very expensive to retro fit and the standard headlights are terrible on dark country roads. Not that I drive on those roads very often as I get a nosebleed when I leave the city limits, but when I do; boy do I notice it!
All other options I could take or leave, and I'm not that bothered about the car's colour either truth be known....
