I am heading over to my mates this weekend to have a look at a MK1 soft top - needs a good clean - and im thinking of doing it all properly and that link has just mad it harder for me not to buy the car and do it!!

Looks great, getting old fittings blasted and coated is very satisfying and definitely worth doing, shiny new looking passivated parts always make a big difference.

I rebuilt the suspension on my 911 and had a bunch of stuff blasted, powder coated and passivated.  Made a massive difference and didn't cost the earth, a bucket full of fittings, small parts, etc can be plated for about £25-30

Be interesting to see how long the finish lasts when using those DIY plating kits.

Nice work... Will be doing my engine when there's nothing else to do then I will be doing what you did, a bit of attention to her underside... but for now thats a bit of a way off me thinks.

i read that last night and thought it was awesome and very anal.. shame to say though that that mk1 probably wont ever be driven again  :sad:

The DIY plating will last just as long as getting it done at a platers.. just most people cant be arsed with the process.. do you think that guy would put that much effort into plating that last 6 months ??
