Seems pretty steep, just renewed mine there and it cost £530 fully comp for mine with a bodykit and points on the licence :embarassed: and im only 24.

I checked my quotes through gocompare, used to be with Admiral myself their pretty good but with Adrian Flux now.

AlanD how come Green Light are so terrible, please explain?  They are by far the cheapest quote I have had, so I was planning to go with them.  They quoted me £498 fully comp and im 28 with 3 points.  Cheers

You have misunderstood what I've wrote. I was saying how cheap they were but I got a conviction so can no longer use them as they wont insure me.

As said they specialise in hot hatches so are defiantly worth looking into when insuring a MK5.

From what I read they do offer an option to break the payments down over 10 months.

try Aviva, which I found was not on comparision sites. I just got a great saving.

my direct line renewal came in at £1100 (paid £650 last year)

admiral came out cheapest on comparision sites, they wanted £640

Aviva came in at £605 (discounted price so they say, 12 for the price of 10)

was very impressed with website and fact you get the documents to print out.  direct line's site is sh!t and clunky compared to aviva. I promise I dont work from them!

That's very interesting. Same things happened to me. I've been with DL for 13 years (every var I've owned has been insured by them) but last years renewal went from £530 to £1100 and I have 13 years NCD and no points and was 35 years old.

Ended up with aviva.

Biggest issue for me with insurance at the moment is the post code lottery of insurers.

I had a 07 GTi which was insured through Greenlight, which was brilliant (approx £500) and then swapped car for 335d BMW and was a minor change (about £100ish).  Then sold my car as was out of work and cancelled my policy. Bought the .:R 6 weeks later, phoned them and wouldnt even insure me because of post code.  Asked that I had been insured with them for 3 years, how come?  They said it was becuase they now classed me as new business and therefore post code restrictions in place.  :embarassed:

Aviva for me were about £1500

Ended up with Adrian Flux and pay approx £900 FC am 32, with 6 yrs NCB and 3 points. Go Figure ;-)

Having owned performance cars for the last 6 years, I do find specialist insurers are best if you getting high quotes.  But if you live in nice area, and tick all the boxes some main streams will insure you fine.

Insurance is a disgrace to be honest...its getting ridiculous.  Worst of all, this is forcing drivers to no insure cars which then crash into us and as a result, our premiums go up again.  Vicious circle imho.

Rant over ;-)

well that did,nt work out after all. greenlight emailed me my qoute (£498) thought wicked.! rang them  the next day then an was told they could,nt do it because my last car was a gt tdi 130 not a performance car an that was the end of that.

So we,ve now got it insured with some  sh!t company, been a nightmare fare play we got it for 650 in the end, but these insurance companys are making so hard for people just to get insurance its ridiculous. Glad i only got 3 point on my license, best stay off the phone or the GTI will have to go....!!!!
