Bolster repair,'91 GTI 8V

Did a search but would like to confirm

This is my drivers seat, with a dodgy seat bolster where you can see the wear mark. I'd like to get a replacement bolster, and the guides look relatively easy, albeit fiddly

I doubt it, but do these replacement Recaro bolsters from Capital Seating have the same size/shape as the ordinary bolsters?

If not, where's a decent source of replacements?

I'd say the best source would be another passenger seat, iirc you can swap all the different bits round to end up with a good drivers seat base.

I have just been doing a job in a settee repair shop,
And my bolsters are worn out worse than that,
But i found out that if you take your bolster foam out and take it 2 a local foam or settee manufacturers and ask them nicely they will knock you some up out of all there spare off cuts,

The passenger and driver's base foam and material are the same.

You'll need to swap the passenger foam material onto your driver's frame. Not too bad a job to be honest, it only gets tricky if you have to remove the material from the foam for whatever reason, which you shouldn't have to do.

Try to get one from a 5 door as it won't leave you with the tilt handle hole in the wrong place.

i got mine from ebay. i just swapped the cloth over and job done.

i also reinforced the bolsters by taping over with bodge tape before covering wth cloth.

they are nice and firm now and less likely to crumble

passenger 5 door best bet unless you dont care about tilt/backrest knobs bein in the wrong spot.  swaping base fabric is dead easy, backrest a bit more tricky. could just swap whole thing over and deal with knob issue or if 5 door one have a backrest that doesnt tilt at all. you can still make it tilt in an emergency if you release the 2 hooks at the bottom of the seat manually
