Looking for a cheaper car than what i currently drive to free up some cash, preferably with 4WD, have but don't wanna pay Mk4 R32 prices, which is why I thought about the V6 4mo.

On the trip down from bonnie wee scotland where I bought the car I mananged 33.5mpg, which is better than I ever got out of my Mk4 Anni, and that was with a couple of 140mph burns down the M74.

The 4mo is 204bhp at the flywheel, and the 1.8t came in the 150 and 180bhp flywheel power too. So with the 4wd bogging it down you'll probably have the same amount of power as the later 1.8t's, but not the driveability or noise.

The wood trim is pretty easy to sort, I've bought some of that 3M carbon fibre vinyl to go over the whole mahogany effect pap. If you have a gander on eBay there is some of the 'net optic' stuff pops up every now and again, and that makes a refreshing change to the brushed aluminium from the Anni/32.

Did you get it from a dealer or private sale? How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking? Love that V6 noise.

Gonna have a look at S3s too and see what kinda price they are coming in at.

Then look at the Audi s4 b5 shape. Pick them up quiet cheap and they are fast 2.7 v6 twin turbo 4wd.

Thought 2.7 twin turbo was s4 b5 only, know the a4 b5's had n/a v6 larger engines and only the 1.8T was the only turbo a4? Depends how much your willing to spend s3's are about 4.5-6k for descent ones, but i am ashamed by the gearbox ratios, they use the same ratios as the anni mk4, which makes no sense on a beefier car?

It was a private sale that I'd only seen pictures of. And I paid £3.5k for it

Still say the S4 is the better option. The S4 is a A4 but a very fast well built one, 2.7 twin turbo v6 engine running 265bhp standard. This is the same engine as the RS4 B5 but is has smaller turbos and some other de mods from the rs4. Audi did make the A4 in a 2.6 V6 and the run out models had 2.8 V6 in them. They also made a 1.6, 1.8, 1.8T, 2.3 V5 engine for the B5 models.

For example this one that S4 for sale on ebay is very very nice and for that price you are getting a lot of car, Do not be put off by the milage as this is a very well built car with a strong engine (as long as they have been looked after) and this is being sold by a dealer who would not sit it on his pitch if it was a dud. Gives you an idea of what you can pick them up for, i have even seen some sell for a little as 2.5k

The only problem with old performance Audi's is, you need to be a good mechanic or have very deep pockets, or both because even parts can be expensive.
Hence why these cars are getting so cheap.
Amazing amount of car for the money though!
