Looking for a cheaper car than what i currently drive to free up some cash, preferably with 4WD, have but don't wanna pay Mk4 R32 prices, which is why I thought about the V6 4mo.

Currently driving a Honda Civic type R after a bad experience with my local Volkswagen dealer which put me off them for a bit. I've not really got into the Honda though, looking for something with a bit of quality about it (which the Honda doesn't have).

V6 4mo will be heavy money to run and they don't feel that quick.

Why not look at the 1.8t model? A lot better drive and cheaper to fix if anything goes on the engine?

Hmmmm? Here's someone who bought the v6 version and binned the engine for a 1.8 bam.

What a waste of time, and knowing PSi's prices, money too. Why not just buy an S3?

I picked up a 2001 3dr 4mo with a mere 38k on the clock before Christmas and enjoyed watching the vast majority of bellend drivers in the snow. I was lucky that it had a full VW service history and I am a mechanic for the Queen so had it up on the ramp as quick as I could. The underneath is cleaner than the mk5 I sold the same day, and the only bugbear I have with the car is the horrible bastard wood interior! Who on earth thought that was good?

As with buying any car, make sure everything works, all of the panels line up and it's not been pranged/written off. Mechanicals is simples.

Not too fussed about MPG as I don't need it for a commute, only really drive at weekends and if I'm out anywhere weeknight evenings.
What MPG can I expect with it? Used to have a Mk5 R32 for a wee while and was getting about 25MPG driving that reasonably sensibly. Isn't the V6 4mo quicker than the 1.8T?

Not really considered them, other than the anniversary model but they are too expensive, no 4WD and would struggle to find an unmolested one. Thought about the S3 for the 1.8T engine and 4WD but I imagine they would still be quite pricey too.

The underneath is cleaner than the mk5 I sold the same day, and the only bugbear I have with the car is the horrible fatherless son wood interior! Who on earth thought that was good?

Not too keen on the wood either, no idea why they thought that would be nicer than just black plastic?  :undecided: lol
Is it able to be swapped with the interior from another model?

On the trip down from bonnie wee scotland where I bought the car I mananged 33.5mpg, which is better than I ever got out of my Mk4 Anni, and that was with a couple of 140mph burns down the M74.

The 4mo is 204bhp at the flywheel, and the 1.8t came in the 150 and 180bhp flywheel power too. So with the 4wd bogging it down you'll probably have the same amount of power as the later 1.8t's, but not the driveability or noise.

The wood trim is pretty easy to sort, I've bought some of that 3M carbon fibre vinyl to go over the whole mahogany effect pap. If you have a gander on eBay there is some of the 'net optic' stuff pops up every now and again, and that makes a refreshing change to the brushed aluminium from the Anni/32.
