Standard BHP
« on: 21 December 2010, 19:24 »
Hi all, I've read a few reviews from mags and online mags that have tested standard BHP of stock MK6 GTI's and they have all reported higher than the 210 BHP specified by VW. One tested on their Dyno 249BHP!

I'd be interested in the results on this forum of those who have stuck their cars on the dyno.

Cheers,

Jim

sounds like dyno's telling porkies!

i have had mine on Dyno Dynamics (which are know to be the best when set up correctly) and mine came in at 207bhp with remap removed. came in at bang on 265 with revo.

there is not a std gti out there with 250bhp  :nerd:

Not had mine done but fuel type and temperature can play a part in the results.
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

Agreed on the fuel but not to this extent, maybe 2 or 3%

When you put a vehicle on a dyno you have to input various factors such as car gear ratio, temp, barometric pressure and more all of which, if not inputted correctly can have a massive effect on the shown BHP.

"Interestingly, in all the dyno testing that Superchips has carried out on the standard Mk 6 GTI, they’ve found the actual figures to be substantially higher than the factory claims. This particular car clocked no less than 249 bhp at 6651 rpm and 307 Nm at 5167 rpm. For a car which is rated at 210 PS (207 bhp) and 280 Nm, according to the official factory figures, that’s already pretty healthy." Quote WWW.VOLKSWAGENDRIVERMAG.CO.UK

"the Golf, over 10 per cent up on where it should be (229bhp rather than 207), is almost halfway to having the power promised for the forthcoming R version." Quote Evo Magazine...

Dont be too quick to dimiss the question......

there was a VERY VERY LONG discussion argument about this on the mk5 board a while ago. It resulted in a big meet at a well know rolling road. It was very clearly proved that a std GTI (mk5) will not be anything more than 2% +/- the VW figures.

If anyone believes that their GTI is putting out anythign more than 215bhp std then they are wrong and the RR is more than likely to be wrong also.

I have seen it a number of times on the bottom of graphs that show humidity to be at 100% etc etc

I'm not trying to get into an argument here but two well established motoring magazines have performed tests and their comments are in my post for all to see.

At some point people have to accept the pro's views.  You could use your own argument to suggest that figures used for your BHP test could be wrong........

Again i'm not looking for an argument just repeating what I have seen in some well respected motoring mags.....

no argument here.. im right

only kidding of course. I would chose to believe the manufacturers over random journo's and what ever RR's they use to produce "SHOCK LOOK AT ME" results. As i said this went on for a while on the mk5 board where someone was sure their ed30 was putting out 250bhp as seen on numerous dynos. One go on a properly set up DDRR... and low and behold 230bhp

bhp is usually a lottery anyway

Nobody's argueing mate just putting points across, to help with this point I suggest the following:

As a sign of my own goodwill and to also "put my money where my mouth is"  I invite you and any other members to feel free to come to my premises in Altrincham by Manchester Airport were I just happen to have a dyno dynamics rolling road to test your cars, nil gratis :-)
