« on: 15 February 2005, 19:13 »
ok  i need help on this 1n as i am new 2 vw gti,s . i have just bought a mrk2 gti 1.8 8v 5 door for ?100
now i got the car deliverd as it had no radiator, and after a quick mess around got my old faithfull 1.6 drivers raditor in it. it has no keys so i had 2 try and bridge ignition , 2 my surprise the engine turns over the fuel pump draws fuel in and is wrking, checked and ive got a spark in cylinders , car has fuel in it and should start but wont,  my only thought is the injectors are F,ed or im not bridgeing ignition correctly , any ideas any 1n , PLZ

i think your going to have to do a process of elimination to track down whats going on there. like you say if you've got fuel and spark then it should be firing but there could be many little things stopping it from turning over.

could you swap the ignition barrel over from your driver as well so at least you've got a key and then that would eliminate the ignition switch problem then go from there?
team grumpy....... its a way of life, not a forum post

ye ive had a look at the ignition barrel in the driver and it is differant plug , the gti has 4 bits that need bridged and i bridge 3 for the car 2 start cranking and ive tried bridgeing 4th but it seems 2 do nothing
, my only other clue is that the distibutar cap was all scored on the gti and the 16 year old drivers was spotless,  but i changes all the leads over and still, no combustion! , thx 4r idea anyhow
