Actually you can check them for nothing!

Drive car or get engine hot (so fan cuts in) then switch off and pull out relays, if cold to touch then they duff!

trouble with that test is they can fail intermittent, or cut out when they get hot!

fuel pump relay easy to diagnose, get a chunky piece of wire and pop it between the 2 large relay pin holes in the fusebox, this will bring fuel pump on constant. drive car for a bit and if it still does it then you know pump relay isnt to blame.

ecu relay not so easy as you have to bridge 3 pins together rather than 2

But op's problem doesnt seem to be intermittent, he gets it all the time. Which is exactly how mine was.

Oh they must be warm all round, even cold on one side means they duff!

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

Just only got the joke chaps :grin: many thanks for all your advice, i have just ordered temp sensor which i will fit tom. I have a new ecu relay and coil on its way which i will fit one at a time and i will hopfully find the culprit. Failing that its going to the scrap yard. just another thought whats your take on the throttle sensor??????? and where is the plug for the diagonstics.
