ED30 or Standard
« on: 06 December 2010, 21:57 »
Hi all, getting out of my company car and going for a GTI of some description.  Looking at a nice 57 plate GTI, 18k miles vwfsh, DSG with nice spec.

Also looking at an ED30 but it's £2.5k more, impartial views please guys, is it worth the extra cash?

Thanks in advance.

I would say that the only choice is the ED30...but then i have just bought one and gone through the same situation.
The ED30 is highly tunable and will retain more value second hand as it will be nore sought after. It also depends how long you intend to keep it for. The other matter is to most people the Ed30 is just a Golf GTI anyway , but its perhaps like saying an RS4 Audi is just an Audi A4 , they don't know what they are on about , but they have got a point!
If you intend to keep the car in the same state as when you buy it then get the GTI if you intened to fiddle with the original and add your own mark then it has to be the ED30.......just £3-500 more on the ED30 gets you 300bhp approx. A Great practical all round car.

Any questions about my choice ? I will answer..........I am a bit old aswell which may give a slightly different view to other son here!

I sold my Edition 30 just over a year ago .... and it is easily the worst thing I did .... the car was an 08 dsg model remapped by Superchips to 300bhp.  The car was brilliant.

Because I am stupid I bought a Z4M Roadster - nothing wrong with it at all - but I always regretted selling the Golf ... which in remapped Edition 30 guise was quicker too !!

I own a GTI but am considering an Ed30 next.  As said above a little bit spent will give you a lot more power.  All depends on what your plans are though.  If you don't plan any engine mods I would say save the difference and go for the GTI.

ed30 every time if you have the choice. You could throw the extra 2.5k at the GTI in modifications and it still wouldn't be as good as the '30.

If it's for power, ED30. If it's for general niceness and being the best all rounder ever, regular GTI. 200-240 bhp is more than enough for many people.
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

I say GTI, can play around with it more without it losing too much value, I have the GTI, and have modded it quite a bit since owning it, If I did that with an ED30 then it would more than likely lose a lot of its value as long as you can put it back to how it was, (also dont' like the ED30 rear bumper... )
