I say GTI, can play around with it more without it losing too much value, I have the GTI, and have modded it quite a bit since owning it, If I did that with an ED30 then it would more than likely lose a lot of its value as long as you can put it back to how it was, (also dont' like the ED30 rear bumper... )

Make that +3

The ED30 is a great car but will only keep it's value in the future if it is as close to standard as possible. If your thinking of keeping it standard, then go for the ED30 as it will be a great asset in the future.

If you are thinking of modding, stay with the GTI as I think the resale value won't be affected as much. Try getting getting a really high spec GTI and you'll have a great complete car. Anyway £2.5k gets you a complete K04 upgrade from awesome anyway.

Just my 2 pence opinion...   :smug:

If you afford it the ED30 clearly the better of the 2. Depends if you budget streches that extra £2.5k, if it does then get. I wouldn't recommend you getting yourself in debt over it. The GTI is still a bloody class act.

Thanks for all the advice guys, money isnt a problem I had intended on buying a used Mk6 but didnt like the idea of £24k on a second hand Golf!

ED30 it is then.

Found a few nice low mile 08 plate DSG ED30's with sat nav etc for about £17k, sounds about right to me, but you guys know better than me so views are again appreciated.

Can't go wrong with a Mk5, Mk6 should be avoided prices are still too high and the Mk7 is on the horizon.

Standard every day.
Halfords looks do not suit the ED30.

I know it's just Egbutt Wash and everything he says should be taken with a grain of salt and shot of gin, but colour coded bumpers is hardly Halfords spec
