1st service, how many miles?
« on: 06 December 2010, 09:12 »
Got a message up on my display this morning " Service Due In 800 Miles". Only done 8500 miles, seems very soon? What service plan is everyone else on?

People with remaps - did you tell VW not to update your ECU when taking it in? Seems a bit suss?

I think the GTI will be every 10k wont it?
I know the diesels can be on the 20k interval - dont know about the petrols though, and it depends on how you drive too, harder driving makes a shorter service interval.

It could depend on whether the dealer set it to long-life or time and distance when they PDI'd it.

Presumabley they come from the factory with long-life oil in. You dealer should be able to check which one it has been set for and adjust it accordingly.

My Passat was set for long-life. The first service was called for at 22,000 miles, I had a long-life service, but the 2000 mile countdown began only 8000 miles later. The dealer checked and although they had done the correct service, they had reset the counter wrongly. After changing it, it asked for it's second service at 41,000 miles.

Mine was set for long-life, but in fact my daily drive is only about 23 miles so that might not have been the most appropriate choice.  Anyway, the car asked for its first service at about 12,400 miles.

I have always went for 12000 on all my cars for servicing. 9000 miles seems a little low, but suppose its not a bad thing. Got the free servicing anyways.

I was thinking, just as well the car needed servicing at 12.500 miles, because it turned out that the front tyres were barely legal and I needed a new set.  I probably wouldn't have checked them myself so early (though I had subliminally noticed there wasn't a lot of tread showing!).

Mind you, I was planning on getting winter tyres fitted about then anyway, so it would have been picked up at that stage I suppose.

Seeing all the problems you guys are having with Vdub stealer i'm sure they will happily take your car in to simply plug in vag com and turn off the service light every ten miles. I would just sharpie over the light

If you look at the sticker on the first page of the service schedule it should say QG0, QG1 or QG2. The other half to this sticker is on the boot floor. Now I always thought it was

QG2 = Longlife 20k
QG0/QG1 = T+D Time and Distance 10k

Mine is QG1 and my service indicator says it due about 9,600 mile. Some say its the other way around. You can check the service indicator in the MFD under service or watch this video.

I have to say I find it astonishing to think that people are not aware that their tyres are in need of replacement. Even if you do not check your tyre pressures regularly, surely you must notice the condition of your tyres when washing the car?

I paid someone else to wash the car....   :embarassed:

I did notice the tyre condition, but it didn't sink in - it was only in retrospect I realised I'd seen it.  I hadn't thought the bloody things only had 13,000 miles in them!   :embarassed:

Ah well, no harm done, they were still legal when they were changed, though only just, and I'll know better next time.
