Can I use a 16V Block on a 8V?

Ive got my hands on a complete 16V engine and was wondering if I can use the block as a replacement for my 8V? I know there are a couple of things that are different like the engine breather but Im thinking I can simply use the parts from my 8V, as an example the 16V has a engine breather on the side of the block and I thought I could use the blanking plate from my 8v engine for that, I was looking at rebuilding the bottom end of the 16V during the winter ready for a swap into my 8V in the spring.

Any advise would be appriciated

No no no, dont wana do that as I want to keep it origional as far as i can, swapping to a 16v would also mean changing the ecu and the wiring and Im only looking for something to tinker with now so perhaps I will get rid of the 16v unit and find a 8v I can rebuild.

If your talking about purely the 'cylinder block' i don't think you can. Pretty sure the 16v has oil jets or such like and the 8v don't. Don't quote me on this as i cant find any info on it.

Yep 16v has piston cooling jets

Thanks guys, yes you are correct the 16v block has oil jets so will have to find a old 8v lump to play with.

the basic block is pretty much the same, as well as the cooling jets it also has a breather on the front. you'll need to change the pistons, intermediate shaft, oil pump and both timing belt sprockets
