yeah thats the oily coating on the matrix burning off, you need to clean the matrix thoroughly before you fit to remove it. it will burn off though, eventually

Have you driven far with the new matrix fitted and definately got all the air out? It took a bit of squeesing of pipes and driving of miles to get mine fully bled. But if you have a new matrix and no bypass valves, you should have a hot car pretty soon!

this problem has come up again.

colling system has no leaks.

when giving it some on the motorway it gets warm. once slow it gets colder?

waterpump is new, thermostat new, engine temp never goes past the middle.
hope its not the matrix
:)

have you checked that the heater flaps are in good condition ?

if not the heat level will be miserly and for some reason the temperature gauge will show a low level or not

move at all

take out the center vents; very easy to do ; shine a torch down the vents and move the control lever to

see if the foam on the flaps has perished

if so you need to sort them out ; see any of the guides to help you  ; its worth the time spent

I had a similar problem today, got the car out after 6 months in the garage and had no heat from the heaters at all,i put a new matrix in before she went away for winter so i knew that was fine,i solved the issue by disconecting the return pipe from the valve as it was not hot at all, firstly alot of cold water came out then there was a surge of slush and water then the water was so bloody hot it scolded my thumb so i did have a blockage in the matrix,i wouldnt advise what i did as it hurt ALOT but now its well toasty again
