sorry but that sub is not designed for free air use

Think we've established that mate.

Not sure how that comment helps at all or is at all useful.

Well as we have some experts looking at this thread can they please explain exactly what the difference is bettween an enclosure speaker and a free to air one?

I have looked closely at both types and cant see any difference.
Also some enclosure speakers can also be have ported enclosures so whats the diference there?

a free air sub uses the entire boot area as a form of enclosure they generally do not have great power handling and the tuning will be very high which is not ideal for a sub
whereas a sealed box is as it is and therefore does not have specific tuning ideally the box should still be designed for the sub thats going in it not all subs require say 1.5 cuft of volume some require more some require less
a ported box is designed specifically for the sub in use and the porting tunes is to your desired frequency

Not exactly answering my question!
I was more asking what are the physical differences in the speakers? How can you tell them apart?

So with a ported enclosure how do you tune it? is it just the diameter of the hole or does there have to be a tube length in the speaker like a transmission line speaker?

tuning a ported box involves working with port diameter and length to gain the correct tuning varying ports have different effects on box volume etc
there are lots of variables between subs to determine the best use
always read the thiele small parameters to get the best results from the sub
free air resonance,bl (magnet strength) sensitivity all have a factor in how the sub best works

So none of the ICE "experts" know anything about transmission line then?

yes i do but if you want a transmission line box thats even more complicated depending on whether you want or have room for either a quarter of full wave length box
and what relevance does a transmission line have box to a sub being removed from a specifically designed enclosure and just mounting it on a piece of wood
