I too came from a VAG 140bhp diesel ......

I do exactly the same journeys in my GTi and I see .... 10mpg drop

Snap, just my averages are much less than yours, but it still works out as 10mpg less for the GTI.

Likes/dislikes if each model aside, I get around 45-48mpg in my GTD. on a 50 mike motorway run yesterday I got over 52MPG and no, I don't drive like my gran!

One thing I do like about this is that I don't spend as much time freezing my bits off whilst filling the car as I can get around 500 before I decide to refuel :)

The fact that you are considering a GiT is that you will accept the additional costs. These, there will be but will also leave a smile on your face.
Just go for it, you know you want to !
Mk6 GiT since birth in 2010

Diseasal is more expensive, it stinks and produces embarassing smoke clouds.

Yes, you get more mpg than a GTI, so what.

Diseasals should be be rated in ypg (yawns per gallon)

If you want ypg then go for a bluemotion.

The concept of a 'performance' diseasal is a contradiction in itself.

Reminds me of a fantastic song from quite a few years ago.

'The Great Pretender'.
