mk 4 gti rear brake problem

ok the cars been parked up and not used for 3 day's, go to use it, take of the handbrake and go to drive of then feel drag on the rear end and i have no tension in the handbrake cable unless i lift the hand brake right up high, atm its -8 outside so is there a chance the hand break levers where the cable goes onto on the caliper's has frozen? and just a case of realeasing them? any suggestion's highly appreciated.

cable sounds frozen i tihnk my mk2 suffered from this yesterday as minus 5 as soon as everything warmed up was fine..

Pad sticking to the disk or a sticky caliper. Chuck some luke warm water on them.

all sorted , the handbrake arms was from , unloosend with abit of puruasion and wd40 now it's workin fine, gonna leave the handbrake of and just leave in gear i think untill this miserable weather is over with

Just dont forget about puting it in gear now 
can be a bit  :embarassed: as you lornch of the drive or into another car 
not that i have ever done that you understand

My handbrake was stuck on this morning. Did the same thing last year in the bad weather. Water gets into the cable sheath and then freezes.
Having defrosted the Golf, Hazel then had to defrost the Polo and take that instead.....not a happy bunny!

By the time I used the car at 1pm it was OK but am leaving it in gear with handbrake off until the weather warms up again.

what Richard said. happened to mine last year the rubber boots had split letting water in which froze. as a quick fix I put copper slip in the boot which solved the problem.
Had no problems this year as I replaced the cables a few months ago
