iPod/iPhone Track Name Not Changing
« on: 28 November 2010, 21:16 »
I'm having an issue where the track name displayed on my RDC510 is not chagning when connecting my iPod or iPhone to the MDI. If I skip through tracks the name of the display changes correctly. However even I listen to a complete track and it automatically skips to the next song I am still seeing the name of the last track on the display.

I have found a previous thread where a number of people reported the same issue and the concensus seemed to be to update the firmware on the MDI. My car is however only about 2 months old and I would hope has the lastest firmware. Is this still a common issue or should I waste my time going to the dealer?

It seems to be hit and miss whether you have this problem or not. If you Google it seems to be a worlwide problem.
I happened on my kids Nano's but not my touch.
I updated to the latest MDI firmware and the touch is now excruciatingly slow to use.

I displayed the behaviour to my dealer when it was in for a service a couple of months ago and VW said they were aware of the problem but had no solution yet.

You probably have the latest firmware but maybe worthwhile trying. I would definitely demonstrate it to the dealer just in case they now have a fix.

I normally use an ancient 6GB iPod Mini which seems to do it once in a blue moon. Where I noticed it most was when I plugged in my iPhone 4 for a long journey and it was litterally every track. At least this makes it reproducable when I take it in.

Out of interest does yours stutter between tracks on the ipod? This is also another problem that seems to be hit and miss between cars. I've had a RCD510 and 2 x RNS510's and the symptoms have all been the same so it must be connected to the MDI but others have had this changed and its still the same.

Mine is really evident with my Touch.
The stutter between tracks seems related to the tracks changing on the display from one to another.

Track A finishes and starts to play Track B however the display doesn't get updated for a split second and then as it updates the display, the start of the song seems to be missing.

However if the display doesn't change when the Track changes like the symptoms you have (And I experienced on the Nano's) then the start of the song plays normally.

Its only noticeable on songs that start loudly as opposed to building up gradually. Again the dealer told me VW are aware of the problem!!

It doesn't happen if I manually fast forward to the next track or if I hit repeat on the track (probably because the display doesn't need to be updated)

Edit: If I get a chance I'll record it and get it up on Youtube.

Yes i've heard the stuttering as well. I always put it down to my old ipod as it did it in my MK5 as well. I had the VW ipod cable that was inside the glove box. If VW are aware of it they are certainly taking there time sorting it out! I'll see if I notice when the stuterring is more apparent, once I notice something like this it tends to annoy me as I keep noticing it.

It annoys me that much I've stopped using it. I now use the SD car or Hard drive. Only problem being is I liked the way the ipod organised everything which made it so easy to search for tracks.

One question here boys and girls.......

..What file type did you use to convert the songs/music from CD's to the iStore?. iStore suggests using ACC, but MP3 is the best to use.
I initially coverted my CD's to ACC to my iPod and the songs would either cut-off half way through or have poor quality.
So, I started again and used the MP3 conversion and I have had no probs at all..........

All of my stuff is MP3. What type of iPod are you using out of interest?

I experience the glitch at the start of songs and the occasional stuck previous track name and I'm using mp3 on my Nano. Only 3 mths old so I would expect to have latest updates  :undecided:
