What tyres do you have? Do they make a difference?
« on: 27 November 2010, 23:44 »
When I bought my GTI it had 4 Bridgestone Potenzas on, and being none the wiser I thought they were fine, until I put Continental SportContact 3's on, they make a world of difference, cornering is much easier with far more grip.

My dad has a Mk6 which he's had for about 3weeks, it came with Bridgestone Potenzas on and he says his car doesn't hold the road as well as mine does, so when he changes his tyres he'll definately be going for SC3's.

Has anyone else found similar issues? Do people like Potenza's?!

my mk5 came with SC2's from the factory.  I now have SC3's, I think it says everything that VWs dont come with SC3's from the factory any more, as they are probably more expensive than bridgestones.

After reading a good review and taking a recommendation from a friend, i opted for 4 new Falken FK452's on mine, and i can confirm after 5k miles, that they are absolutely s**te in either wet or dry. DO NOT risk it by saving a few £££. They're ok in terms of general driving and road noise and stuff, but try and pull away quickly (even in a straight line) and you'll just get wheel spin (proved by taking a very quiet industrial estate drag race between me and my mate in a Clio 172 - he completely dusted me with his Conti's!)

I'm dreading the winter because wet weather grip is so bad - and i simply can't afford spare wheels and 4 winter tyres.

As soon as the cold weather subsides a bit next year, i will be changing them regardless of their condition. Biggest tyre mistake i've ever made!

Another vote for Vreds  Michelin PS3s are also getting rave reviews from people who are using them.

Im on my 2nd set of Eagle F1s. Had GSDs on before and now have Assy ones. Im going to give the PS3s a go next time.

Also this has been spoke about soooo many times. So a quick search using the search function in this section and have a read, lots of helpful info in plenty of topics.
