The only thing...
« on: 24 November 2010, 19:51 »
So a couple of months in and the only thing that's niggling me is that the doors need to slammed to close properly...seems to happen for all 4. I spent years telling the kids not to slam and now I have to say to pull harder...even I have to put a bit more effort into closing.....common experince?? I thought give a couple of months to bed in then possibly copper grease up??

Opinions always graciously accepted

Is it just the hinge/spring is stiff or that there not shutting properly.
I find the mk6 one of the easiest. Is it a 5 or 3 door as the 3 will have much heavier doors.
It maybe down to air pressure a known thing with all VWs since the beetle.
Try dropping a window alittle bit then shutting the door and see if it shuts easier.

Funny, I was just considering posting a topic about the mk6 doors. 2 weeks ago I cleaned the car with one of these spray on, rub off gizmos from the shopping channel. The car looked great but when I pulled off the drive i could hear movement in the rear doors. Took it into VW and they put some moisturizing stuff (apparently £49 a bottle) on the door rubbers and hey presto the noise/apparent door movement has gone. Initially I thought it was the locks as there seemed to be so much movement on the doors

5 door, I think more stiff as they fit fine just need noticable more effort. I'll try the window drop...

Had all 4 doors re-hung and adjusted. Perfect closing with no effort.
Also, got bonnet re-aligned.

There is a latch just up from the bottom hinge that maybe whats stiff. I have sprayed white spray grease on mine as well as the hinges.

Not sure about the name but i was given some similar stuff... apparently they use it on the eos as the chassis has alot more flex than the golf which leads to those creaks and squeeks

I must be one of the lucky ones, all 4 passenger doors close well and have a nice sound, not a CLUNK !
