Anyone got a GT TDI 140 CR?
« on: 20 November 2010, 20:12 »
I'm thinking about buying a year old one for my wife. They seem a lot better value than the over priced GTD, but will I regret not saving for a bit longer and getting the GTD?

The performance of the 140 CR ought to be plenty for her. She drives with one eye on the mpg display as it is.

I want a DSG. Not too fussed about paddle shift, I'm just happy to leave it in D and do it's thing.

She on the other hand, "I don't want an automatic". She's never even driven one.

Well if VW did not make the shifter look like an automatic people may not look on it as such. Maybe VWs trying to tell people something

A mate has the TDI 2.0 105 SE and it seems decent enough. I have driven the 140 and power wise i thought it was enough for most things and alot smother and quieter than the 130PD we had when i drove it. I did not think there was much if any difference power and delivery wise between the 170 and 140 in everyday use all the GTD has is its abit more sport in looks and handling.

Just bought a manual, coming back to vw after 3 years in an automatic 330D MSport Estate.

Hopefully the mpg won't be in the 20's and i'll be able to drive in the winter.

I've gone with the GT rather than the GTD mainly due to the purchase price, i had a PD 150 Diesel which was plenty fast enough i'm sure the CR 140 will be fine.

Let you know how it is once i pick it up later this week.

Pleasant car to drive, much better value compared to gtd because hundreds and hundreds of gt cars on the market. Have had both as demo cars dsg and manual, dsg is fantastic with that engine.

I have one. I tested pretty much the whole range  and although the 1.6 Match makes a lot of sense tax wise in the UK, I just had to have the sports seats, lowered and stiffer suspension and 17" rims on the GT. The GTD is faster, but when it matters, on the motorway, there wasn't enough between them to justify the much bigger price tag. Plus the GTD seems to attract the loons on the road having a go.

Its a must to get DSG, with this CR engine its a superb car

I've driven the Gt tdi for a few days and it was a great car and will be enough for most.

The GTD is a different kettle of fish to be fair but that takes nothing away from the Gt tdi, but on reflection I think the extra money is well spent on the GTD as it has lots of nice upgraded bits that make tha Gt tdi seem a little "cheap" when you get back into one.
