Engine fault light + New accelerator = £240 :O Shocking!

Exactly what it says as the title, just had the glow plug/engine fault light flashing, so i took the car to mr VW.  After the initial shock of £108 inspection fee, which on its own is a rip off, i was then told that the accelerator was losing the will to live and needed replacing.  Well in total the cost is £240.  I cant help but think i wish id bought the Vagcom gear and done it myself.  How hard can replacing a pedal be!

Anyone else think this is a bit steep?

This is just one of the many reason why my car will never see a VW garage. Find yourself a nice friendly local VAG specialist garage and use them from now on.

Try asking in general VW section for people who live in Oxford and who they use.

Hi, thanks for the reply.  I knew as soon as i dropped the keys off that i was being a fool.  However with me needed to get to work, and the VW garage being 20m down the road, i just dropped it off without thinking.

Next time i think i will do it myself.  Plus id like the challenge.

As a side note, which Vagcom cable do you need for the mkv?  As i couldve used that to pin point the problem (i suspect).

You need either the MicroCan or HEX-USB Can lead.  The latter can do all VW's with a diagnostic port, the former just those that are CANBUS based only i.e MK5 onwards 

Isn't it all built into the pedal itself?  A new pedal is approx £80 and a 10 minute job to replace 

I'd kick up a fuss and see what you can get off the bill

Well and truely a$$ raped it would seem.  Is it realistic to get them to budge on the price?  Id be suprised if they threw in a free tree air freshener.

Sorry but a set of spanking new golf gti ally pedals including the new accelerator pedal is only around £100 and has the instructioninside on how to change them so how can they charge you over £200 for a standard rubber pedal?? Id be contacting vw customer services!!
