Front cross member bolts,
« on: 14 November 2010, 10:36 »
Ok whilst under car yesterday, I noticed that the front cross member has 3 bolts in it, The outside 2 go through and screw into Big Bumper, But i noticed the middle bolt had broken through cross member,

You mean the bolt head has been broken off? Unless you need to remove the cross member, there is no real issue. The centre bolt just goes into the radiator support bar, which sits above the cross member.  Having the bolt there makes disassembly a little easier I think, but its the bigger outer pair that do all the work in normal operation.

Its not broke the head off, Its the metal surrounding the bolt has just broken through, So the bolt is basically just screwed into the panel without actually holding anything there now,

Same goes I think(?). It's not a load bearing bolt. Just helps on disassembly. The rad support is held on by the two big bolts. Of course it may be indicative of corrosion issues on the rad support....

Yeah its not load bearing it just secures to the underside of the chassis leg. I wouldn't bother unless you want to cut up some steel, weld and make a new lug hole, or just buy a second hand Cross memeber bar?
The I had same thing just fixed it changed out for new bolts job done!

find an LMC/Hadrian panels supplier, they do that panel for around £40 new.

that outer bolt just holds the rad support in when assembling/removing the cross members.

now, if it was the center bolt, you'd have trouble if ever you wanted to take the bumper off  :lipsrsealed: cos the engine cross member would fall off as you remove the bumper bolts

I don't think a semi will give the same results

That ay what i thought was causin my problem then
Basically it feels like something is loose somewhere,
When driving along if i take foot of accelerator and then sharply put my foot down i get a bang as if something is loose, I already changed front engine mount which was broken,
Also when i reverse with wheel turned and apply brakes its as though somethings not connected properly,,
