Morning all! Bought a f reg oak green 3 door 16v at the weekend. Have a 1.3 as my first car, then a friend lent me his 16v for six months at some point in the past. Have passed thru my sensible late 20's and am now approaching (early) mid life crisis, hence the return to the mighty mk2...
Anyway, onto the questions. The car I've bought is mechanically sound but a bit chavved up - it's so low I can't get it down the incline at my old man's house, which is a problem as I'm about to disappear to Africa for 10 weeks work. The car has adjustable shocks but I tried to adjust yesterday - despite increasing the spring length by 30mm there was no difference in ride height - I guess these shocks are set that low as they come? They are unbranded but looking round the available options on flea bay it say they are jamex. Is it possible they need the gas pressure increasing to gain ride height?
The next question follows on from the last. If I can't raise the car by saturday then I'm forced to put the car on the drive - there is a massive tree overhanging which drops tops of leaves, sap, and sh!t from all the birds living in it. I used to have an old (1959) beetle which I kept outdoors with a semi breathable cover on, I know they are not fully waterproof but would this be better for the car than a proper waterproof tarp style cover? I won't be back till Jan but I'm going to get my bro to take the cover off every fortnight, dry the cover and wash the car... Sound like a plan? Any other (better) ideas?
Other than that, usual rough idle, but to be fair the car has barely done 1000 miles in the last 3 years! Will have it serviced while I'm away. Any good recommendations for gti specialists near Brighton?
Cheers guys... Bring on the sarcasm!
