^^^ H&R Springs can be quite stiff... not ridden in a mk2 with them though...

i have a lot of time for the bilstine inverted monotube shocks

for an A - B road car i would proably go for b6's    iirc it's a bit softer damper and for lowering uptp 60mm.  as my car ended up quite low (hence useing b8's ) b8's at some point soon i'll be extending the lower ball joints and and fliping the track rods to optomise my suspention geometry
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Had a set of AVO damp adjustable coils a while back.

Very comfortable ride for a coilover but cant compair to the other high end brands.

around £500+

So what was the end result of this. Im looking at changing my cheapo coilovers which are a nightmare on b roads to something more comfortable. I need recommendations from people who have had the experience of different coilovers... I will be lowering no more than 50mm just to keep the gap between the tyre and arch minimal. Maybe an inch gap front and back. Would eibach and bilsteins do this??

I have Spax RSX coilovers on my MK2, brilliant value for money! Fully adjustable height and damping.

End result was that nothing got done! due to a family illness. Any changes to my car got shelved just after last Christmas, but still very much in the pipeline, and looking forward to getting back on track..
