« on: 19 October 2010, 17:33 »
Hey Guys.

I have a golf mk3 gti and i have got a Xtrons head unit and ive split the back to speakers to run into the back of the car which has 2 JBL GT5's in. What amplifier would run them to subs? im lookin around 2000w right? and also i might be adding some tray speakers in after? could someone tell me a good amp please? :D Thankyou!!

Ignore the glorified wattage figure, RMS is what you at looking at which for that sub is a lot less. What's you budget for the amp? Number of channels? What are tray speakers?

gt5s will be around 250wrms each. Should be Single 4ohm voice coil config so ideally to be safe 500wrms mono at 2ohm will see you nice.

Although I have mates putting 500wrms into gt5s and playing hard all day long without problems. As long as you don't clip them you should be fine.

Ampwise look for a 2ch which does 500w ish bridged at 2ohm or a mono which does 500w ish at 2ohm. Simples

you mean 6x9's?

if so, dont mount 6x9s in parcel shelf.

1. whats the point in upgrading the sound quality in the boot (subs are put in boot because there isnt really anywere else you can put them and also the soundwave they give out is not as directional (i do belive but im willing to be corrected if wrong))
2. look at the speekers in the door, they are mounted onto metal for a reason, so that they dont bounce around ect. parcel shelf isnt strong enough to give it a good solid positioning
3. 6x9s dont give as good sound quality as normal component speekers.

if your going to mount speekers on the parcel shelf buy a stelth shelf

If you've got subs in the boot it's a waste of time putting 6x9s on the shelf unless you put them in separate enclosures.

Why do you want a 4ch to power to subs?

You ideally want a mono amp.

No. You need around a 500wrms ish amp at 2ohm.

2000w is far too much to be running daily. If you were burping maybe but I wouldn't in this instance.
