Im ooozing for lumpy idle! Something about the sound of it that seems to turn me on at the moment, i have been thinking about doing this for a while now but need some advice.
Not looking to spend much so i have narrowed it down to newman cams
I can choose between
272* INLET & 272* EXHAUST
POWERBAND 3000RPM TO 7500RPM
Or
268* INLET & 268* EXHAUST
POWERBAND 2500RPM TO 7000RPM
I know the 8v engine doesn't like being revved so the first one seems like a good choose but im worried it wont effect the idle? I want it to be a bit lumpy, but not stupidly difficult and awkward to drive

It's not just about duration, valve lift is also important.
My old one had this spec
Sports ' R ' 2500-7000 11.53mm 11.53mm 285 Deg
^lift ^lift ^duration
I'd go for the 272 out of them two, but if I was to go outside of them two, I'd go for what I had before, Kent GS23H

Apparently both of these are OK for road use and OK with hydraulic lifters,
The 268 is 11.37 lift - Fast road/rally
The 272 is 11.47 lift -Tarmac rally/sprint

The ones I used was used with the standard top end. It was a tarmac rally spec cam, but had more durationa nd more lift than the 272 you're showing there.

Khare, how did you find it? I know yours was a bit more, the next one up they sell is even more again and requires mechanical lifters, so this is the limit for me.
Did you loose much bottom end and how did idle effect driveability?

When Khare took me out in his it was very different to my old mk3 8v. The powerband had defiantly moved and didn't run out of puff.

Cam, panel filter, exhaust (same one even
), modified airbox
Idled like a chevvy V8, bit of kangarooing when pulling away if you weren't careful, great sound when cam kicked in.

Awsome! Thats settled then. Dont suppose any one has one for sale do they? Cant find any used ones anywhere, but i would prefer new for obvious reasons. Lets see what pay day brings

Im not too knowledgeable about engine internals, but, how hard is it to change cams? Worth doing or only with other upgrades? What sort of cost are they to buy? Sorry for the thread hijack (and the dumbass questions).
