dual mass fly wheel

hi i have just been told that my dual mass fly wheel  will need replacing soon as its making a noise by a mate who is a mechanic.
car is a 51plate with 132k on clock standard car, would like a bit more power but i think the fly wheel thing will cost a bit of cash which was for a r-tech remap.
first question what sort of price for the fly wheel and do i need anything else while it is apart?
second question is do i realy need a dual mass fly wheel or is there some thing else i could use which would not need one?

Dual mass flywheels range in price from about £200 to around £400 depending on the make

Labour is the killing factor so whilst its apart you just as well replace the clutch otherwise you'll find yourself hit with two lots of labour

5 speed or 6?

As i'm sure for the 5 speed there are other options like G60 flywheel

No you are right

the 5 speed derv engines can take the G60 clutch upgrade

Its the 6 speed dervs where it gets pricey

Fingers crossed for the OP that he has a 5 speed then.

As I seen the invoice when my brother had it done on my car under warranty, clutch and flywheel came upto about £800 ish including labour.

That's about right

Dealers will charge in excess of a £1000 to fit OEM clutch and flywheel.

I paid £900 for my Sachs uprated one back in the day when you could get the clutch kit for under £500.  Its well north of £600 these days I think

lucky me i have a 6 speed so i can see a nice big bill coming my way
i will have to talk to my mechanic friend to see if he could do it maybe i should get him drunk this weekend and get to say he will do the labour free if i get the parts

I'd go other way - get him to source the parts and you pay for the labour
