What tyre size did the GTi ...
« on: 13 October 2010, 07:40 »
Come out of the factory with? I know the 16v 1996 has 280mm Front Brake Discs, and 15" Wheels, but what tyre size did it have?

I only ask because ive been using 205/50/15 and yesterday I changed to 195/50/15 (my cars lowered aswell on a 40/60 setup) ...

But the point im trying to make is that my car feels completely different ... SO MUCH easier to turn and it feels really loose and swift. Very hard to describe unless you get behind the steering.

Im just wondering if ive been using the more 'expensive and wrong' tyre fitment on my car ... or is it that, after you've lowered it, your better off using 195's ...

Either way im very happy & recommend people switch to 195's as you can buy performance tyres WAY cheaper.

195/50 was standard on the earlier cars they then switched to 205/50's.

A lot of people switch to 195's as they are cheaper plus give more room if lowered.

I found mine loads better on 195's.

Yeah I changed them because they give more room ...

Don't know why you'd want 205's to be honest.

My handling seems much better!!

I have just put 205 50's on mine....surely more rubber on the road means better handling ??  Mines lowered as well and there is still a bit of a gap between the tyre and the arch.

Ive always used 205's ... thats what Im basically saying. Im suprised how much better 195's are ... car goes round roundabouts better, you can turn much quicker, and the POWER STEERING FEELS LIGHTER.

lol @ 65 ... not after hench tyres mate.

I would seriously go low profile if I could. 195/45/15 ftw ... but it'd affect my speedometer BIG time.

I asked for 195 45's but he only had two and when I asked for 205 45's he asked what planet I was on
